PARTNERSHIP SPELLS NEW APPROACH TO DIGITAL HEALTH TECH

HIMSS UK 15.02.18

The Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has recently announced a partnership in the UK with The Social Kinetic, designed to transform access to information technology and digital learning within the UK health sector.

The new partnership will embrace The Social Kinetic’s innovative approach to engagement, information sharing, knowledge transfer and event management. HIMSS UK will focus on showcasing and sharing best practice in healthcare innovation in response to:

1) The growth and prioritisation of digital health to improve access, efficiency and quality throughout the NHS and beyond.

2) Digital transformation requiring more than just the technology. As digital transformation rolls out there is a growing need for education, training, networking and access to knowledge on how to implement proven solutions.

3) The need to re-think the way HIMSS members and delegates work together to solve their challenges.

Dr Mark Davies, Chief Medical Officer at HIMSS UK, said: “Health technology is a critical part of the solution to the current challenges the NHS is facing and HIMSS UK is ideally placed to provide thought leadership and support. We want people to have been part of something at our events and to take away learnings they can implement.  It is no longer enough to just hear about what’s new in health tech – the ‘how to do it’ is critical.  Our events and insights will give delegates an experience to remember and to act on, providing them with clarity and professional growth through leadership and networking.”

The new approach to the events programme and wider engagement will be designed in consultation with the recently formed HIMSS UK Advisory Board, which brings together professionals from across the health tech sector, including Chief Clinical Information Officers (CCIOs), Chief Information Officers (CIOs), service leaders and digitally enabled patients. The digital agenda isn’t owned by one group and this new Advisory Board reflects the diverse community making up health and care.

Rachel Dunscombe, Chair of the new HIMSS UK Advisory Board said:  “Modern CIOs and CCIOs in healthcare face huge responsibilities to staff, patients and the public – they need to be able to support their organisations with the very best leadership. How organisations, such as HIMSS, engage, educate and support the sector has to match that.  I am very excited to be part of this new HIMSS UK events programme to ensure learning, networking and best practice sharing matches the ambition of the health sector.”

The remit of the partnership will cover HIMSS’ flagship event, eHealth Week, held in May, as well as the HIMSS Executive Leadership Summits and some new platforms to be unveiled during 2018.

The Social Kinetic’s founder and Hacker-in-Chief, Claire Cater, said: “HIMSS recognised a need to reinvigorate their programme to meet the changing demands of their audience. We specialise in engaging with stakeholders to design and create programmes which educate and excite. We are delighted to be working with HIMSS to offer learning and networking opportunities for a group of very time-poor individuals where every second out of the office, the hospital, the consulting room or the community counts.”

In addition to supporting the health tech community with leading events in the UK and globally, HIMSS is a leader in analytics in health as well as publisher of key information management journals including the British Journal of Healthcare Computing.
