IBM Watson Health set to headline sponsor UK e-Health Week 2018

HIMSS UK 13.09.17

The cognitive computing division signs up to several key HIMSS initiatives to strengthen its engagement with the NHS health IT community

IBM Watson Health has signed up as a headline sponsor of UK e-Health Week 2018 – one of the largest health IT events in the country. They are also the first collaborative sponsor for the HIMSS Analytics Digital Imaging Adoption Model (DIAM) helping organisations assess their digital imaging maturity. This fits well with the Global Digital Exemplar zone at the UK e-health Week by helping all trusts, of all sizes set strategic roadmaps to becoming national and international exemplars with the intelligent use of IT.

Stephen Bryant, Managing Director at HIMSS UK, said: “IBM Watson Health is leading the way in cognitive healthcare solutions and I am delighted they are once again joining us at UK e-Health Week as headline sponsor. Attendees will hear first-hand how this important technology is making waves and will leave with the contacts and inspiration they need to make huge improvements in their organisations.”

UK e-Health Week has built up a reputation for being the most significant e-health event of the year. With the support of NHS England and NHS Digital, the 2018 show being staged at Olympia London on 15 and 16 May will once again unite NHS health IT professionals from across the country with some of the most forward-thinking supplier organisations from the UK and beyond.

IBM Watson Health, as headline sponsor will lead the conversations at UK e-Health Week by hosting main stage speaking talks, a joint panel discussion also on the main stage and Global Digital Exemplar Zone as well as an expert-led exhibition stand and demonstration theatre showcasing the company’s work across health and care, including the DIAM model recently launched.

Speaking about the announcement, Mark O’Herlihy Managing Director of IBM Watson Health Imaging said: “To improve health outcomes, we must improve the lives of healthcare workers. We believe that proper enterprise IT strategies together with cognitive computing technology can help address some of the key NHS challenges like radiologists’ shortages and outsourcing, auditing and reporting and interoperability. Mark goes on to say “We understand which tasks humans do best and enjoy most, and where cognitive systems can complement people in order to help people work more effectively and joyfully.”

“We are delighted that IBM Watson Health have become our first DIAM Certified Consultants and as such we look forward to working with them closely in the future in order to support and guide all those working within Imaging Services. The continuous development of Imaging technology is critical in a modern healthcare system if we are all to realise the benefits and efficiencies that this kind of innovation can bring. We are looking forward very much to organisations like IBM Watson Health leading the way in this important clinical area.”

The two-day programme will include a main stage, where high profile speakers from across the NHS and industry will deliver inspiring key note addresses and panel debates, practical sessions across five lecture theatres, and a lively and engaging exhibition in the main conference hall. The Global Digital Exemplar Zone also returns in 2018 where Global Digital Exemplar Trusts will talk about their work in the zone’s dedicated theatre and pods.

About IBM Watson Health

Watson is the first commercially available cognitive computing capability representing a new era in computing. The system, delivered through the cloud, analyzes high volumes of data, understands complex questions posed in natural language, and proposes evidence-based answers.

Watson continuously learns, gaining in value and knowledge over time, from previous interactions. In April 2015, the company launched IBM Watson Health and the Watson Health Cloud platform. The new unit will help improve the ability of doctors,  researchers and insurers to innovate by surfacing insights from the massive amount of personal health data being created and shared daily. The Watson Health Cloud will allow this information to be deidentified, shared and combined with a dynamic and constantly growing aggregated view of clinical, research and social health data.
