Announcing the launch of the HIMSS Digital Maturity Series and new appointments to the HIMSS UK Advisory Council

The HIMSS DM Series, Actionable Insights to Digital Maturity, will kick-off May 14th at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust

25 March 2019 – London, United Kingdom– Last week, HIMSS revealed a new UK-focused strategy with the launch of the HIMSS DM Series aligned to the digital maturity goals of the NHS. The new programme was introduced to a diverse gathering of thought leaders, policy makers and executives from the UK and the international community.   The launch was supported by key executives from NHS England, NHS Digital, the AHSN Network, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and the HIMSS Advisory Council as well as attendees from Singapore, Denmark, Netherlands and the United States.  

The strategy results from extensive UK research on the standards, insights, events and communities needed to enable the NHS digital transformation journey. The dinner also had an engaging discussion on how several digital maturity models such as HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model (EMRAM) and the HIMSS Continuity of Care model (CCMM) can enable the NHS to lead on digital maturity and global standards and achieve better patient experience, improve outcomes and lower healthcare costs.

Tim Ellis, Acting Head of Digital Technology at NHS England talked about the importance of “sharing peer-reviewed frameworks like these to support organisations and people at the front line on their journey to digital maturity.  It's great to see an organisation like HIMSS bringing people together in rich learning environments and networking forums to have a constructive conversation about what’s worked and what are the hard lessons, not only from the UK, but from around the world to bring GDEs and other NHS trusts an international perspective and inform the development of blueprints.”

At the dinner in London, HIMSS UK revealed the HIMSS DM Series which will travel the UK complete with study tours, bite size learning events and global networking opportunities to help breakthrough the complexity, simplify the journey and provide actionable insights to digital maturity. The series will kick-off at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, a high-performing trust in the UK and a GDE. Salford Trust is embracing Digital Transformation and Salford Hospital is on the HIMSS EMRAM Digital Maturity journey to improve quality, safety, reliability and efficiency.

To bring the HIMSS UK strategy to a health system level and empower all stakeholder groups including patients, nurses, clinicians, and technical teams, HIMSS announced several new appointments to the HIMSS UK Advisory Council, Chaired by Anne Cooper, Non-Executive Director at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, who commented: “This digital maturity discussion has a triple aim of improved outcomes, efficiency and experience for patients and staff”.
